Puerto Rico has waves year-round, from easy two-footers to fast-moving barrels. With nearly nearly 300 miles of coastline, beautiful beaches and warm water temperatures Puerto Rico is an ideal surfing destination year-round. Some surf spots include Playa Jobos for consistent waves and Rincon for renowned breaks. Other spots include Gas Chambers, which can be challenging for experienced surfers, and Machuca, a secluded beach with dark-black sand and left and right-hand waves.
Puerto Rico has a welcoming and inclusive surf community. The first surfers in Puerto Rico were part of the Puerto Rican National Guard, who made their own surfboards out of local materials like bamboo and coconut fiber cloth. This style is now known as “Puerto Rican Style”.
