São Bernardino – Silver Coast Tranquillity
São Bernardino is a thriving seaside town on the Silver Coast of Portugal, just an hour from Lisbon. Vast, sandy beaches, brilliant beach bars, restaurants and shops combine to create a relaxed and charming destination. The town is just a short drive to Peniche, Europe’s leading surf spot, and Supertubos Beach which hosts “The Rip Curl Pro” surfing tournament every year, drawing surf fans from across the globe.
Positioned between Lisbon and Porto, São Bernardino enjoys easy access to Portugal’s largest cities. Lisbon International Airport is just an hour’s drive away, offering connections to more than 130 destinations globally. This makes the region an ideal base for a wide range of buyers, including expats, property investors, and those in the market for a holiday home.
Aside from surfing, residents and visitors can also enjoy many activities, from sunbathing and water sports on Praia de São Bernardino to exploring nearby landmarks such as Fortaleza and the Cabo Carvoeiro lighthouse.
*Currently the project is licensed as a ‘touristic’ development although developer is in progress to change this to a ‘residential’ development. For added security, 30% funds (-€5000) will be held in seller escrow and only released to developer once this alteration has been formally approved by the municipality.
One of the most famous beachbreaks in the world and for a good reason. When the swell comes from the south, Supertubos turns into a tube machine. Every year in October Supertubos is the arena where the world`s best surfers battle it out at the Rip Curl Portugal Pro: don`t miss the action.
Consolação is known for it`s long rippable righthanders that break off the point and the amount of swell size it can handle. But on the northern side of the point is a less known, hollower left that can offer a crowd-free session for goofy footers.
A small coastal village, just to the south of Pôr do Sol, that sleeps for the biggest part of the year, but comes alive in the summer months. The surf is nothing spectacular, but the long beach that stretches all the way south to Santa Cruz craves for surf exploration.
Just south of Peniche, but north of the famous surf spot Supertubos, is another quality wave called Molhe Leste. This is a powerful right point break that can offer great barrels. It breaks off a jetty and is sheltered from the northern winds and swell. Thanks to its sandy bottom, Molhe Leste can be good for less experienced surfers on the small days. When bigger, it’s only for advanced surfers.
