Peniche Surf Spots

A compact peninsula with 270° of coastline, Peniche and nearby Baleal catch swell from multiple angles—so there’s almost always a wave somewhere. Here’s an original ISP guide to the best-known breaks, when to go, and local tips.

Peak: Sep–Nov

Overview

Peniche sits on Portugal’s west coast, about 90 minutes north of Lisbon. The peninsula and the sandbars of Baleal form a natural swell magnet with quick drive-arounds when wind or tide changes. Expect beach breaks most days, with a few punchy reefs and ramps on the right forecast.

Local tip: If the wind turns onshore at Supertubos, check the north-facing bays around Baleal for cleaner options.
