Mangrove

A fun and consistent left-hand reef break surrounded by mangroves, offering longboard-friendly walls and a more forgiving alternative to neighboring Limestone.

Mangrove is a beautiful left-hand reef break in the Kertasari surf zone of West Sumbawa. Located in the same secluded, mangrove-lined bay as Limestone, Mangrove is generally the gentler of the two waves and offers clean, playful walls in an extraordinary tropical setting.

The wave can accommodate a broad range of surfers depending on swell size, tide and where you sit on the shoulder. Smaller days with sufficient water over the reef can be excellent for progressing surfers and longboarders, while larger swells create faster, punchier walls better suited to experienced surfers.

Viewed from shore, Limestone is the larger, steeper peak to the left while Mangrove is the gentler peak to the right. Mangrove still offers a steep enough face for performance surfing, but the wave is less intimidating and has a channel near the end that makes returning to the lineup considerably easier.

On smaller days, surfers can move farther onto the shoulder and find softer waves, making Mangrove one of the better progression options around Kertasari.

As swell increases, the main peak becomes faster and punchier and can develop hollow sections over the shallow reef.
