About this break

K61 is a high-quality right-hand point and reef break along El Salvador’s spectacular La Libertad coastline, located just west of K59. Breaking over an extensive rocky bottom, K61 offers two distinct personalities. The outside section produces a fast, steep and long right-hand wall that can turn hollow when conditions align, providing excellent performance surfing for intermediate and advanced riders. As the wave moves closer to shore, it becomes slower and more forgiving, creating opportunities for longboarders and less experienced surfers in manageable conditions.

One of K61’s greatest attractions is its combination of quality surf and relatively light crowds. The break is less popular than neighboring K59 yet can produce excellent waves from approximately 2 to 8 feet. It can also remain more manageable when larger swells make some surrounding breaks too demanding. The shoreline and seabed contain numerous river stones, and sea urchins are present, so surfers should take additional care entering and exiting the water.
