About this break

K59 is a high-quality right-hand point break on El Salvador’s spectacular Costa del Bálsamo, known for long walls, fast sections and occasional barrels. Breaking over a rocky bottom and receiving direct South Pacific swell, K59 can produce long, powerful rights with a steep, workable face that provides plenty of opportunity for carving, speed and high-performance surfing. When a solid southern swell combines with clean morning offshore winds, K59 delivers the type of long, lined-up surf that has made El Salvador one of Central America’s premier surfing destinations.

Despite its quality, K59 generally sees fewer surfers than the heavily traveled breaks around El Tunco and Punta Roca. The secluded setting is surrounded by mountains and coastal forest, giving the break a distinctly different atmosphere from El Salvador’s busier surf towns. The rocky bottom, powerful sections and takeoff near the rocks make K59 better suited to intermediate and advanced surfers, particularly when a larger South Pacific swell arrives.
