About this break

An uncrowded, fast and hollow beach break offering lefts, rights and playful tubes just minutes from El Salvador International Airport.

El Pimental is an uncrowded, sand-bottom beach break on El Salvador’s central Pacific coast in the Department of La Paz. Unlike the country’s famous cobblestone right points, Pimental offers shifting A-frame peaks breaking both left and right, with fast walls and hollow sections when the sandbars, swell and tide align. It works through the year and is particularly fun around 2–5 ft, while larger swells tend to make the beach close out. Mid-to-high tide and early mornings before the onshore wind develops generally provide the best conditions.

Its combination of warm water, easy access, sand bottom and remarkably light crowds makes El Pimental a useful alternative to El Salvador’s better-known point breaks, particularly for intermediate surfers looking to improve in faster, hollow beach-break conditions. For surfers considering buying, selling or investing in property near El Pimental and throughout El Salvador’s surf coast, International Surf Properties connects the global surf community with real estate in the places surfers want to live.

Considerations

Crowds: Low / Often Empty

Strong rip currents and undertow, fast hollow sections, shifting sandbars and larger swells that can produce closeouts. The beach is generally best early in the morning before winds become choppy/onshore, often after approximately 11 AM. Swells above roughly 6–8 ft can overwhelm the sandbars and close out.
