About this break
Costa del Sol offers a completely different side of El Salvador surfing. Stretching approximately 15 kilometers along the Pacific coast, this beautiful sand-bottom beach produces constantly changing A-frame peaks with both lefts and rights. On smaller days, mellow sandbars and whitewater provide excellent conditions for learning and progression. When South Pacific swell arrives, the beach transforms, producing fast walls, hollow sections and occasional barrels approaching nine-foot faces. With warm tropical water, miles of coastline and considerably more room to explore than El Salvador's famous point breaks, Costa del Sol is an underrated surf destination with waves for a wide range of abilities.
A long tropical beach-break playground offering uncrowded sandbar peaks, fast lefts and rights, warm water and occasional barrels along one of El Salvador's most beautiful stretches of Pacific coastline.
Unlike the rocky points that define much of El Salvador's surf reputation, Costa del Sol offers miles of sand-bottom beach breaks. Constantly changing sandbanks create A-frame peaks up and down the beach, giving surfers the opportunity to hunt for their own lefts and rights.
Costa del Sol is unusual because its suitability changes dramatically with swell.
Small, softer peaks and whitewater areas can be excellent for beginners. When south-Pacific swell increases, the same beach can produce fast, hollow waves approaching 3 meters, making individual peaks appropriate for experienced surfers. El Salvador's tourism authority explicitly mentions both beginner-friendly zones and challenging tubular surf.

Considerations
Crowds: Low to Moderate
Strong rip currents, shifting sandbars, fast closeouts, powerful shorebreak, larger South Pacific swells, changing conditions along the 15-km coastline and limited landmarks for identifying the best banks. Conditions can change quickly with tide and swell. Beginners should choose smaller peaks and avoid stronger rips; larger hollow days are best left to experienced surfers. Surf-Forecast specifically identifies dangerous rips as a hazard.
